Engineer Rogatus Mativila, the Deputy Secretary General of the Office of the President in charge of Infrastructure, has instructed the contractor, M/s Jiangxi GEO Engineering Group, to work day and night to finish the Kihonda - VETA road in Morogoro Municipality.
The road, which is 12.85 km long, must be completed with the required quality within three months, by May 2025.
Engineer Mativila gave this order during a visit to inspect the project, which is part of the Tanzania Urban Cities Improvement Project (TACTIC). The project is funded by a loan from the World Bank.
“I am here to visit one of the key projects that the Sixth Government is working on to bring development to 45 cities in Tanzania.
The aim is for these cities to have good infrastructure, like paved roads, which will help the economy grow,” he said.
He explained that Morogoro is one of the cities benefiting from this project, which will cost 19.6 billion Tanzanian shillings in the region.
“The project is behind schedule by 18%. Only 82% of the work has been completed so far, and there are some reasons for the delay.
After solving these issues, we expect the project to be finished in three months. If there is heavy rainfall, we still want the project to be completed by August this year,” he added.
The Manager of TARURA in Morogoro, Engineer Mohamed Muanda, said the project started on October 23, 2024, and was supposed to be finished by February 2025.
The first phase includes building large drainage systems leading to the Kikundi River, which is 4.4 km long, and building offices for the Engineer's Consultant and project supervisors.
Engineer Dargie Dilbedi, the representative of the foreign Consultant Engineer and Ethiopian-based Engineer Consultant (JV Core Consultancy), assured the Deputy Secretary that the work is almost done and he is confident it will be finished within the next three months.
