Bunazi Green Acres English Medium Primary School in Missenyi, Kagera Region, made history by being recognized as the best small business taxpayer in Missenyi district at the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) awards for the 2023/2024 financial year.
The awards ceremony, held on February 11, 2025, in Bukoba, was graced by the Kagera Regional Commissioner, Fatma Mwasa, who was the guest of honor. Several top taxpayers in the region were acknowledged during the event.
Kagera Sugar Ltd, also from Missenyi district, was recognized as the top taxpayer among large businesses at the regional level.
Jackyline Rushaigo, the Director of Bunazi Green Acres, expressed heartfelt thanks to her staff for their dedication to paying taxes on time and accurately reporting them.
She emphasized the importance of taxes in supporting the country's development and highlighted how the school promotes patriotism through tax compliance.
“As an educational institution, we must teach Tanzanians that paying taxes is a civic duty. We should not avoid paying taxes for fear of losing profit,” she said.
Rushaigo also encouraged parents and guardians to enroll their children at Green Acres, explaining that supporting the school helps contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
Regional Commissioner Fatma Mwasa praised the success of the taxpayer week, which ended with a celebration honoring outstanding taxpayers from various sectors in Kagera.
She congratulated the TRA in Kagera for exceeding revenue targets and urged local traders to always issue Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) receipts during transactions.
Kagera Regional TRA Manager, Castor John, stressed the importance of tax payments, saying that the rapid development of Tanzania is made possible by taxes.
He emphasized that without paying taxes, the country would not be able to achieve its development goals.
For the period of July-December 2024, TRA in Kagera collected 92.3 billion shillings, exceeding the target of 80.9 billion shillings by 114%.
Bunazi Green Acres, founded in 2016, has quickly become one of Tanzania's top primary schools. The school placed second nationally in the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) in 2020 and has continued to perform well, with many students achieving Division One in their exams.
The school’s commitment to quality education and responsible fiscal practices has positively impacted both the community and the national economy.
