Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, announced today that the construction of a new sports stadium in Dodoma will cost a total of 352 billion Tanzanian Shillings.
This funding has been allocated by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The announcement was made during a signing ceremony in Dodoma on February 13, 2025, between the Ministry, represented by its Permanent Secretary, Mr. Gerson Msigwa, and the Italian company, Limonta SPA.
Prof. Kabudi revealed that the stadium’s construction is set to be completed in 24 months and will have a seating capacity of 32,000 people.
In addition to the new stadium, the Minister highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to improve other sports infrastructures.
These include the renovation of the Mkapa Stadium, which is 75% complete, and the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Prof. Kabudi emphasized that this project will create significant opportunities for Dodoma’s residents, including jobs and business ventures.
He also urged various stakeholders to foster an enabling environment for vital services such as electricity, water, roads, and communication, all of which will support the contractor in meeting the project's required timelines.
Meanwhile, Mr. Gerson Msigwa, the Permanent Secretary and Chief Government Spokesperson, expressed his gratitude to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for her invaluable support to the sports sector.
He noted that the newly built infrastructures would position Tanzania to host major international events, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
