The Zanzibar national football team, Zanzibar Heroes, emerged victorious in the Mapinduzi Cup after a thrilling 2-1 win over Burkina Faso in the final, held on January 13, 2025, at Gombani Stadium on Pemba Island.
Zanzibar took the lead in the 41st minute with a goal from Ibrahim Hamad Hilika, which secured them a 1-0 advantage at halftime.
In the 70th minute, Burkina Faso equalized through Aboubacar Traore, making it 1-1. However, Zanzibar responded in dramatic fashion, with Hassan Ali Cheda scoring the decisive second goal in the 90+2 minute, ensuring Zanzibar's 2-1 win.
With this victory, Zanzibar claimed the Mapinduzi Cup trophy, completing a memorable campaign.
Feisal Salum, who was named the tournament's best player, attributed his success to his faith in God, discipline, hard work, and adherence to the coach’s guidance.
He acknowledged the challenges faced throughout the tournament, particularly in the tough match against Kenya, where both teams were vying for a spot in the final.
In recognition of their triumph, Zanzibar Heroes will receive a prize of 10 million Tanzanian shillings, as promised by the competition organizers.
