The Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has bid an official farewell to the Japanese Ambassador to Tanzania, Yasushi Misawa, who will conclude his term of service on January 17, 2025.
During their meeting, Minister Kombo expressed heartfelt gratitude for Japan’s enduring partnership with Tanzania, emphasizing its critical role in driving development across a wide range of sectors.
“Japan has been one of our most dependable partners, supporting infrastructure, trade, health, agriculture, energy, and education,” he said, underscoring the tangible impact of the collaboration on the country’s growth and prosperity.
Minister Kombo also called for further strengthening of trade and investment ties between the two nations, suggesting that trade exhibitions could serve as a bridge for fostering deeper economic cooperation.
He extended an invitation to Japan to participate in the highly anticipated International Trade Fair, popularly known as Sabasaba, set to take place in July 2025.
In response, Ambassador Misawa expressed his appreciation to the Tanzanian government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.
Reflecting on his two years and seven months in Tanzania, he commended the collaborative spirit that has defined the relationship between the two nations.
“I am deeply grateful for the cooperation I received, which has been pivotal in strengthening the bond between Japan and Tanzania,” Ambassador Misawa remarked.
Looking to the future, Minister Kombo assured the outgoing ambassador that Tanzania remains committed to preserving and building upon the progress achieved during his term.
“Your contributions have set a strong foundation, and we are ready to work closely with your successor to ensure the continuity of this valuable partnership,” he affirmed.
The farewell meeting highlighted the robust and multifaceted relationship between Tanzania and Japan, one built on mutual respect and shared goals.
As Ambassador Misawa prepares to leave, his legacy of fostering deeper ties serves as a reminder of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
