Tanzania host Africa energy summit in Dar es Salaam

By Alfred Zacharia

Tanzania is proud  host the Africa Energy Summit, which will bring together African leaders and global experts to discuss energy solutions for the continent.

The summit will take place in Dar es Salaam on January 27 and 28, 2025. It is organized by the Government of Tanzania in collaboration with the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan will lead the event alongside 24 African Heads of State and senior representatives from international organizations such as the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and the Rockefeller Foundation. A total of 2,600 participants, including experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from Tanzania and beyond, have registered to attend.

To ensure the smooth running of the summit, some major roads in Dar es Salaam will be temporarily closed.

The Police Force has already announced which roads will be affected. To minimize disruptions, the Government has declared January 27 and 28 as work-from-home days for employees in Dar es Salaam.

Employers in both public and private sectors are encouraged to let their staff work remotely, except for those providing essential services that require physical presence.

This decision will help reduce traffic congestion and make it easier for the summit to proceed without unnecessary complications.

Residents and businesses in Dar es Salaam are advised to plan their movements carefully during these two days. People should use alternative routes or avoid unnecessary travel.

Commercial hubs like the Kariakoo market and hotels hosting summit delegates are expected to be particularly busy, so planning ahead is important.

Hotels and service providers are also urged to prepare for the high number of visitors and ensure they deliver quality services during the event.

Private businesses are encouraged to support the work-from-home initiative to ease traffic and ensure operations continue smoothly during the summit.

The cooperation of all employers and residents is vital to making the event a success while minimizing disruptions to daily activities in the city.

The Africa Energy Summit is a big achievement for Tanzania, as it showcases the country’s ability to host international events of this scale.

It also highlights Tanzania’s role in finding solutions to Africa’s energy challenges. The summit will create opportunities to discuss policies, attract investments, and build partnerships that will benefit Tanzania and the entire continent.

The Government thanks residents and businesses in Dar es Salaam for their support and cooperation. By working together, Tanzania will deliver a successful summit that strengthens its position as a leader in Africa’s energy development.

This statement was issued by Ambassador Dr. Moses M. Kusiluka, Chief Secretary, on January 26, 2025.
