The Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Dr. Damas Ndumbaro, has been elected Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Legal Affairs Ministers’ Special Committee.
The election took place during a meeting that brought together ministers, ambassadors, and legal experts from across Africa.
Speaking at the end of the nine-day meeting, Dr. Ndumbaro thanked the members for trusting him with the leadership role.
“We are honored that Tanzania has been chosen to chair this council. We will work together to make the African Union a leader in the legal field and a role model in delivering justice,” he said.
Dr. Ndumbaro highlighted the importance of technical committees of legal experts within the AU.
He said these committees are vital in reviewing key documents and ensuring tasks are completed on time. He called for teamwork to make decisions that bring real impact.
He also urged the newly elected vice-chairpersons and the committee’s secretary to begin implementing the agreed resolutions.
He emphasized forming a team to push forward key agendas and ensure the AU achieves its goals.
Dr. Ndumbaro’s election is seen as a proud moment for Tanzania, marking its influence in African leadership and the legal sector.
The meeting started on December 14 and ended on December 22 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Zanzibar.
