Stephen Wasira, the Deputy Chairman of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Mainland Tanzania, affirmed that the decision made by the CCM Special Congress to nominate President Samia Suluhu Hassan as the party's candidate for the Presidency of the United Republic of Tanzania was in full compliance with the party's constitution and the authority of the Congress.

He addressed individuals who claim to be CCM members but still do not understand why the delegates of the Special Congress made this decision, stating that he is prepared to help clarify the matter, as people's ability to grasp information can vary.

Wasira made these remarks today in Dar es Salaam, where party leaders, members, supporters, and citizens from various regions had gathered to welcome him.

He explained that after the Congress acknowledged the substantial work done by both the Union Government and the Zanzibar Government, it concluded that there was no reason to delay the announcement of the presidential candidate.

He noted that while some individuals still do not understand the decision, it is not unusual, and the party is ready to help them understand.

He emphasized that the Congress, in accordance with the CCM Constitution, is the ultimate and highest decision-making body.

Furthermore, Wasira clarified that the Congress holds the authority to change, revoke, or amend any decisions made by lower bodies or CCM leaders.

He concluded by saying, “For anyone still uncertain about this matter, I am here to assist, as the constitution is clear in my mind.

The decision we made is in line with Article 101 of the CCM Constitution, which requires the selection of a single candidate for the presidency. We followed this provision, and with the authority of the Congress, Dr. Samia has been nominated.”
