Players participating in the CAF U17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament have been sensitized about the importance of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine during a seminar held on January 16, 2025, at Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
The seminar, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in collaboration with UEFA, aimed to promote awareness about cervical cancer prevention among young female athletes.
Addressing the participants, health expert Kuruthumu encouraged the girls to embrace the HPV vaccine to protect their health and achieve their goals.
She assured them of the vaccine’s safety, which has been certified by the World Health Organization (WHO).
"The HPV vaccine has been approved by WHO and is entirely safe. There is no reason to fear—it is a simple and vital health measure," she said.
Stephanie Kabumba, Women’s Football Officer at the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), emphasized the long-term benefits of the education provided.
She noted that the knowledge gained would empower the players to make informed health decisions and continue thriving in football while preparing for future roles.
"This seminar equips the girls with essential knowledge to take responsibility for their health, ensuring they remain strong and committed to their football careers," Kabumba remarked.
