Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of his outstanding leadership and transformative contributions to the nation.
The honor, bestowed by Zanzibar University during its 22nd graduation ceremony held today, December 5, 2024, at the university grounds in Tunguu, celebrates Dr. Mwinyi’s remarkable achievements in driving economic growth and development during his four-year tenure.
The university highlighted that the honorary doctorate in economics was awarded to acknowledge Dr. Mwinyi’s pivotal role in advancing Zanzibar’s economy and fostering rapid progress that has left an indelible mark in the country’s history.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Mwinyi expressed gratitude to the university for recognizing his efforts, emphasizing that the award reflects the collective accomplishments of his government. “This honor is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of my administration to the development of Zanzibar. It will serve as motivation to push for even greater progress,” he stated.
Dr. Mwinyi further pledged to uphold the honor and reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people of Zanzibar. He described the recognition not as the culmination of his journey but as a stepping stone toward achieving even greater milestones for the nation’s development.
