Yanga Football Club’s delegation of 55, including 25 players, departed yesterday for Algeria to compete in their second group-stage match of the CAF Champions League, set for December 7, 2024.

The remaining members of the delegation are club officials who will be accompanying the team for the crucial encounter.

Yanga heads to Algeria after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to AlHilal of Sudan on November 27, 2024, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Speaking at Julius Nyerere International Airport on December 3, 2024, Alex Ngai, a member of the club's executive committee, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, emphasizing the importance of securing points in order to keep their hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals alive.

“The upcoming match will be tough, as playing away from home always presents challenges. However, we approach this game with respect for MC Alger, and we expect them to do the same, as we have a strong and capable team. We are fully prepared to fight for the three points, and we believe we can return with a positive result. The coaching staff has done its part, and the players are mentally and physically ready for this challenge,” said Ngai.

He further added, “This is a great opportunity for the players to showcase their talent and commitment to our fans and supporters. We are confident that we can perform well.”

Meanwhile, Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ally Kamwe, acknowledged the tough nature of the upcoming fixture, stressing the importance of a measured approach.

He stated that while the team aims for a victory, they are also focused on securing at least one point from the match.

“It’s going to be a tough match, and we must be fully prepared. We are going with a positive mindset, but if we cannot secure all three points, we will work hard to earn at least one. After starting poorly at home, we are determined to bounce back and improve our performance. With the support and prayers of our fans, we believe we can overcome the challenges,” said Kamwe.

Additionally, Kamwe noted that the match will be played behind closed doors, as MC Alger has been sanctioned, and no fans will be allowed in the stadium.

Yanga's focus remains on securing a strong result in Algeria as they continue their quest for success in Africa's most prestigious club competition.
