Dar es Salaam: The Vocational Education and Training Authority (Veta) in Dar es Salaam has introduced an innovative teaching tool designed for science classrooms. Sitta Pete, Veta's Public Relations Manager, emphasized that the purpose of their participation in the event was to promote education and encourage youth to pursue vocational training and skill development.

Speaking at the opening of the 9th Science and Technology Conference organized by Costech, Pete highlighted the importance of technical education, stating that vocational skills are not just about learning but about gaining practical expertise that fosters creativity. He also pointed out that Costech has been a key partner in helping Veta showcase the skills of their students and teachers, demonstrating the crucial role of innovation at the institution.

One of the standout innovations on display was a device created by a student to teach science concepts, particularly atomic structure, in schools. This invention has been approved by the Ministry of Education for use in primary and secondary schools for subjects like geography and chemistry, marking a significant achievement for Veta.

Additionally, Veta teacher Ally Issa shared that another notable innovation developed in their labs is a natural oil designed to tackle the challenge of mosquitoes around dormitories. This chemical-free solution, made from the leaves and fresh seeds of the Muarobaini plant, has proven to be safe for the skin and highly effective in repelling mosquitoes, particularly important for students studying late into the night.

Issa also presented a natural remedy for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women, as well as a treatment for all types of fungal infections and rashes in children. The remedy, a natural spray, is designed for use in various areas of the institution, providing essential health benefits while minimizing the use of chemicals.

These innovations showcase the significant strides Veta is making in enhancing education and practical solutions to everyday challenges, reinforcing the importance of technical skills and creativity in Tanzania's educational landscape.
