Tanzania’s TACTIC project to improve and develop 45 cities worth TZS 2.9 trillion

By Alfred Zacharia

A total of projects valued at TZS 2.9 trillion (equivalent to USD 1.108 billion) are being implemented across Tanzania as part of the Sixth Government’s initiative in collaboration with the World Bank.

These projects aim to enhance urban development and improve service delivery to citizens.

Managed by the President's Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) and executed by the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) through the Project Coordination Team (PCT), the initiatives include Phase Two of the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP2), the Msimbazi River Basin development, and the TACTIC project covering 45 towns nationwide.

The primary goal of these projects is to enhance transportation infrastructure and various social services. Today, December 5, 2024, a contract was signed for the construction of Inala Bus Terminal and a central market in Tabora Municipality.

During the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of OR-TAMISEMI, Hon. Zainab Katimba, expressed the government’s expectations that these projects will bring positive change to Tabora’s residents by improving business environments, increasing the value of local areas, and boosting individual and regional income.

Hon. Katimba emphasized the importance of maintaining the infrastructure to ensure long-term benefits for the community.

“All local government leaders involved in TACTIC projects must ensure that the markets and bus terminals are well maintained, self-sustaining, and capable of generating revenue for their councils,” said Hon. Katimba.

Upon completion, the Inala Bus Terminal will accommodate over 70 buses and minibuses simultaneously, provide parking for 142 private vehicles, and increase the council’s revenue. It will also offer better access and improved social services, including a child care center, water systems, street lighting, and office facilities.
