Tanzanian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) safely returned to the country yesterday after completing a one-year mission.
The seventh batch of peacekeepers received a warm welcome at Mapinga Military Training College in a ceremony attended by Brigadier General George Itang'are, who represented the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Hajj Othman.
In his speech, Brigadier General Itang'are expressed heartfelt gratitude for the soldiers' dedication, stating, "Welcome home, and thank you for representing us so admirably, both as a military force and as a nation. You have performed your duties excellently, and I commend your commitment."
He further acknowledged the valuable experience the soldiers gained during the mission, emphasizing the core values of a soldier: loyalty, trustworthiness, and courage.
"I trust you will continue to serve with the same excellence here at home," he said.
A significant moment during the ceremony was when Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mushilu, the commander of the seventh batch, presented the battalion with a certificate of recognition from the United Nations.
This certificate was awarded in honor of the battalion's outstanding contributions to the citizens of the Central African Republic.
Lieutenant Colonel Mushilu expressed pride in the achievement, stating, "This recognition is a testament to the bravery, professionalism, and dedication of our soldiers.
Their return marks not just the completion of a vital mission but also a proud moment for the Tanzania People's Defense Force and the nation. These soldiers return as true heroes."
Tanzania remains a key player in global peacekeeping efforts, with more than 2,600 Tanzanian military and police personnel currently serving in six UN peacekeeping operations worldwide.
These personnel contribute to vital tasks such as protecting civilians and community policing, playing a crucial role in peace and stability in conflict zones.
MINUSCA, the mission in the Central African Republic, is part of the broader UN peacekeeping network, which includes missions like MINURSO in Western Sahara, MONUSCO in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and UNMISS in South Sudan.
As of September 2021, MINUSCA had over 15,000 personnel deployed, including troops, police, and civilians, to support the country’s transition to peace after years of conflict.
The successful completion of this mission further solidifies Tanzania's standing in global peacekeeping and underscores the country’s ongoing commitment to promoting peace, stability, and security worldwide.
