The Rural Energy Agency (REA) convened its Fifth Workers’ Council meeting today at Ledger Plaza Bahari Beach Hotel in Dar es Salaam, aiming to enhance teamwork and innovation in delivering rural energy solutions.
The meeting served as a platform for dialogue on aligning the agency’s efforts with the Sixth Phase Government’s vision for the energy sector under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Opening the session, the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Electricity and Renewable Energy in the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Khatibu Kazungu, highlighted the pivotal role of REA employees in driving government energy goals.
He called for proactive engagement and innovative thinking to ensure efficient energy service delivery.
“This meeting is not just a platform for discussion but a crucial opportunity for all stakeholders to align their efforts with the Sixth Phase Government’s vision of providing quality energy services to Tanzanians,” Dr. Kazungu remarked.
He urged the employees to embrace creativity and professionalism while adhering to public service ethics, warning against practices like corruption, misuse of power, and mismanagement of public funds.
“I urge participants in this meeting to listen attentively, engage, and provide ideas and suggestions that will fuel the government’s objectives to deliver quality energy services to citizens,” he added.
REA Director-General Eng. Hassan Saidy outlined the agency’s accomplishments, attributing its progress to enhanced collaboration between management and employees.
He pledged continued efforts to sustain and improve employee performance and productivity.
“The strong relationship between management and employees has been instrumental in our success. We remain committed to working together to overcome challenges and achieve our goals,” Eng. Saidy stated.
Representing the Trade Union of Government and Health Employees (TUGHE), National Secretary-General Mr. Heri Mkunda lauded REA’s management for fostering a positive work environment. He emphasized the importance of sustaining this collaboration to boost professionalism and service delivery.
In addition to reviewing progress, the council meeting provided a forum for employees to share insights and propose actionable strategies for expanding rural energy access. Discussions focused on leveraging innovative approaches to enhance project execution and meet the government’s energy priorities.
By bringing together diverse perspectives, the REA Workers’ Council meeting underscored the agency’s commitment to transforming rural energy services and supporting Tanzania’s broader development agenda.
