Deputy Prime Minister of Tanzania, Dr. Doto Biteko, has proposed organizing a fundraising gala to support the completion of the student center at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). Speaking on December 7, 2024, during the UDSM Marathon held at the university, Dr. Biteko emphasized the importance of mobilizing resources to ensure the timely completion of the project.
"I urge organizers to plan an event that brings stakeholders together to contribute towards the construction. If there are potential supporters, identify them so we can approach them directly," said Dr. Biteko.
He further pledged to follow up with the Treasury to ensure the government fulfills its financial commitments to the project, reiterating the need for stakeholders to actively support the marathon and its cause.
Former President and UDSM Chancellor Jakaya Kikwete echoed these sentiments, urging Dr. Biteko to assist in securing the promised government funds. "We appeal for your intervention to help us access the funds pledged by the government, which are yet to be received," said Dr. Kikwete.
Queen Edward, Communications Officer for the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSF), highlighted the fund’s commitment to sponsorship, noting its focus on members' welfare and efforts to increase membership through educational initiatives.
In the marathon results, Aloyce Simbu triumphed in the men's 21 km race, followed by Jonas John and Imran Dadi in second and third place, respectively. In the women’s category, Grace Jadson claimed victory, with Tunu Andrea and Groly Silvester finishing second and third.
