The Sixth Phase Government, under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has recently conducted testing and provided Hepatitis B vaccinations to 100 healthcare workers in the Emergency Unit and 500 students from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).

This initiative was carried out through the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH).

The Executive Director of Muhimbili National Hospital, Prof. Mohamed Janabi, revealed that Muhimbili, in collaboration with MUHAS, launched a program aimed at vaccinating healthcare workers and MUHAS students against the Hepatitis B virus.

"I was part of the launch today for the Hepatitis B testing and vaccination exercise for healthcare workers in the Emergency Unit at Muhimbili National Hospital and for students from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences," Prof. Janabi said.

He emphasized the importance of this vaccination, particularly for healthcare workers who are at a tenfold higher risk of contracting Hepatitis B compared to the general population.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2022, more than 254 million people worldwide were living with chronic Hepatitis B infection, and over 1 million people died from related diseases, including liver cancer.

Prof. Janabi encouraged the public to take preventive action by getting vaccinated, as the vaccine is safe, effective, and readily available.
