The construction of the Arusha Sports Stadium, which will serve as one of the key venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has made significant progress, reaching 16% completion.

This was announced by Gerson Msigwa, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, and the Government Spokesperson, during his visit to the project site on December 21, 2024.

Despite the ongoing heavy rains in the region, Msigwa confirmed that the construction is progressing smoothly.

The stadium is being built in the Olmoti area of Arusha City, and once completed, it is expected to play a central role in the hosting of the prestigious continental football tournament.

Msigwa expressed satisfaction with the development so far and emphasized the importance of the project to Tanzania's sports infrastructure.

The new stadium is designed to meet international standards, offering state-of-the-art facilities for players, officials, and fans alike.

According to Msigwa, the total cost of the project is estimated at 286 billion Tanzanian shillings, which will cover the entire construction process.

He also reassured the public that funds for the project are being released on time, in accordance with the directives of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, ensuring the timely completion of the stadium.

Msigwa praised the government's commitment to the project, noting that President Samia has provided clear instructions to ensure the stadium is completed as planned and to the highest standards.

In addition to the Arusha project, Msigwa also highlighted the upcoming developments concerning the Dodoma Sports Stadium.

He revealed that an official update regarding the progress of its construction will be issued in the near future.

The successful completion of both stadiums is a part of Tanzania’s broader efforts to enhance its sports infrastructure, particularly in preparation for hosting major international events such as AFCON 2027.

The construction of the Arusha Sports Stadium is seen as a significant milestone in Tanzania's sports development, contributing to the growth of the sports sector, the economy, and the nation’s international reputation.
