30 Teams Compete in Thrilling JMK Open Basketball Tournament

Dar es Salaam is abuzz with excitement as 30 basketball teams from within and beyond Tanzania battle it out in the prestigious JMK Open Tournament at JMK Park.

Tournament Coordinator Babati Mgunda said the competition brings together young players across various age categories, including U14, U16, and U18.

“This tournament aims to identify, nurture, and promote basketball talent among young athletes,” Mgunda explained. “We expect this year’s event to be bigger and more exciting, offering a platform for young players to showcase their skills and grow in the sport.”

The U18 Girls' teams participating include Ukonga Queens, MWK Lamborghinis, Vikapu, and DB Troncatti. In the U18 Boys' category, the competition features teams such as Ukonga Warriors, TM Rockets, MWK Burudas, Fundamental, Singida, Unmatched, Young Magic, Kigamboni, Pemba Combine, Vikapu, and DB Oratory.

For the U14 category, Girls' teams include Ukonga Angels, MWK Mocking Jays, Orkeeswa Girls Blue, and DB Troncatti, while the Boys' category features Ukonga Warriors, Dream Chasers, MWK Nightrollers, Kigamboni, Vikapu, and DB Oratory.

The JMK Open Tournament has grown into one of the most anticipated basketball events in the region, creating opportunities for young players to shine and paving the way for the sport’s development in Tanzania. Fans at JMK Park eagerly await the unfolding action as teams compete for glory in this year’s edition.
