Tanganyika, Katavi: The Rural and Urban Roads Agency (Tarura) has completed the construction of a series of bridges and a 20-meter bridge over the Mnyamasi River, along with the development of a 37-kilometer road linking Ifinsi, Kambanga, and Bugwe villages in Tongwe Ward, Tanganyika District, Katavi Region.

The project, funded with 1.5 billion shillings from the government, has significantly improved transportation and access for residents. Tarura's Acting Regional Manager for Katavi, Engineer Japhet Bengesi, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the Mnyamasi River had previously posed a major challenge for residents in this key agricultural region.

"The Mnyamasi River was a critical barrier, cutting off communication and transport. Thanks to President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts, we have built seven bridges and opened the road, providing a vital connection for this major production area," Bengesi said.

Local leaders and residents praised the development. Mnyamasi Village Chairman, Ngisa Muyanga, highlighted the profound impact on daily life. “During the rainy season, we struggled to cross the river, women gave birth on the road, and goods couldn’t be transported. Now, we can move freely and vehicles can pass throughout the year,” he said.

Residents echoed the sentiment, with Ibrahim Temi of Ifinsi Village sharing how improved infrastructure has boosted agricultural productivity, making it easier to transport rice and other crops to Mpanda. Eunice Shola, also from Ifinsi, praised the road's benefits, particularly for healthcare access, as ambulances can now reach the village without difficulty.

The project marks a significant step forward in improving rural infrastructure in Tanganyika District, enhancing both economic opportunities and quality of life for residents.
