The Rural Energy Agency (REA) has introduced innovative, environmentally friendly stoves at this year’s Samia Kilimo Biashara Expo, held in Leshata Village, Gairo District.

The stoves, known for their affordability, durability, and health benefits, are set to revolutionize cooking in rural communities.

Speaking at the REA booth during the event, Gairo District Commissioner Hon. Jabir Makame praised the stoves for their safety and eco-friendly design.

He urged the local community to embrace their use, noting their positive impact on both household health and the environment.

“These innovative stoves are a game changer. They are affordable, safe, and reduce exposure to harmful emissions. I encourage all residents to take advantage of this opportunity and make the switch,” Hon. Makame said.

He also highlighted the government's commitment to environmental sustainability, led by the Clean Cooking Energy Initiative, spearheaded by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. The initiative aims to reduce reliance on traditional fuels and promote cleaner energy alternatives.

Gairo District is actively involved in the Green Heritage Campaign, which addresses climate change challenges affecting agriculture and livestock.

The campaign aligns with the broader national efforts to mitigate environmental degradation and promote sustainable practices.

Several key partners are supporting this initiative, including environmental organizations, gas companies, alternative charcoal producers such as STAMICO, the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), and the Ministry of Energy.

Engineer Deusdedith Malulu from REA explained that the stoves are designed to use minimal charcoal while maintaining high efficiency.

He emphasized their safety, noting that they prevent harmful emissions from escaping, making them healthier and more environmentally friendly.

“These stoves are not only efficient but also safe for users and the environment. They significantly reduce charcoal consumption, which helps protect our forests and natural resources,” said Engineer Malulu.

As part of the expo, REA has already distributed 790 stoves to residents of Gairo District, marking the beginning of a wider push for the adoption of clean cooking solutions across Tanzania.

This initiative is part of a broader national agenda to promote sustainable energy use and improve the quality of life for Tanzanians, particularly in rural areas.
