Residents
of Mbogwe and Bukombe districts in Geita region have praised the sixth-phase
government for implementing development projects that significantly impact
their lives and accelerate progress in the area.
This
appreciation was voiced on October 8, 2024, during the ongoing tour to inspect
and inaugurate development projects in Mbogwe and Bukombe by the Minister of
Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, on behalf of President Dr. Samia S. Hassan.
Dr.
Zakayo Sungura presented a report on the construction of a district hospital in
Mbogwe, stating that from the 2019/2020 fiscal year to 2024/2025, over Sh 2.7
billion has been allocated for the hospital project in the Mbogwe ward.
He
expressed gratitude to the government for completing the hospital's
construction and for providing medical equipment to benefit the people of
Mbogwe and surrounding areas, who previously had to travel to Kahama district
for such services.
Reporting
on development project implementations, Bukombe District Commissioner Engineer
Paskasi Muragili revealed that in the past three years, Bukombe has received
nearly 45 billion shillings for development projects invested in health, roads,
electricity, and education sectors.
Geita
Regional Commissioner Martin Shigella thanked President Samia for the
successful implementation of various development projects totaling over Sh 800
billion in three years, stating that these initiatives have significantly
accelerated the region's growth.
Speaking
to residents of Bukombe and Mbogwe, Minister Mavunde noted that Geita is among
the regions that have received substantial funding for development projects in
health, education, infrastructure, energy, and economic empowerment.
“President
Samia has accomplished a remarkable amount of work in this region. I’ve seen
numerous new schools constructed, district hospitals, health centers, and
dispensaries in every corner, along with new paved roads, water projects, and
rural electrification initiatives,” said Mavunde. “It’s evident that the Sh 800
billion allocated to this region is leading to tangible development.”
Mavunde
emphasized that the ongoing development projects in Geita are pivotal for the
region's economic transformation. Investments in infrastructure, education, and
healthcare not only improve the quality of life for residents but also create
job opportunities and foster local entrepreneurship. For instance, the
construction of new roads and health facilities enhances access to essential
services, which can drive business growth and attract further investments.
Moreover,
the government's commitment to transparency and accountability in managing
revenues from the mining sector has been commendable. With a significant
revenue target of 246 billion shillings in the 2024/2025 fiscal year, the focus
on proper utilization of these funds is crucial.
The
effective management of resources has mitigated the risk of embezzlement,
ensuring that the benefits of mineral wealth are reinvested into community
development. This approach is especially important as the country gears up for
the 2025 General Elections, demonstrating a strong governance model that
prioritizes public welfare over personal gain. As Geita sets a benchmark for
responsible revenue management, it serves as a model for other regions in
Tanzania, inspiring confidence among citizens about the government's ability to
deliver on its promises. The minerals minister is currently in Geita for a
working visit to inspect and inaugurate development projects throughout the
region.
