DR Congo hosts Tanzania in crucial AFCON 2025 qualifier

By Shaibu Hazary

Today, DR Congo will welcome Tanzania in a key AFCON 2025 qualifying match, set to take place at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa at 7 PM Tanzania time.

So far, DR Congo has played two qualifying matches, securing a perfect six points with victories over Guinea and Ethiopia. In contrast, Tanzania has earned four points from their encounters with Ethiopia and Guinea, with one win and a draw.

DR Congo comes into this match in stellar form, having won their last six AFCON qualifiers without conceding a single goal. Their most recent defeat in AFCON qualifiers came against Sudan in June 2022, where they lost 2-1.

Tanzania also boasts an unbeaten streak in their last four AFCON qualifiers (2 wins, 2 draws), although these games have been low-scoring, with only four goals in total (3 for Tanzania, 1 against).

The return of Tanzanian captain Mbwana Ally Samatta is expected to boost the team's morale and inspire stronger performances on the pitch.

On DR Congo’s side, forward Fiston Mayele has proven to be a threat in recent qualifiers, netting three goals in his last four games, all scored in the final 15 minutes of play.

This match promises to be competitive, as the two teams recently met in the last AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast, where they played to a goalless draw.
