Tanzania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Dkt. Doto Biteko, met on September 23, 2024, with a delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The delegation was led by Hon. Phan Dinh Trac, and the meeting took place at Dkt. Biteko’s office in Dar es Salaam on behalf of the President of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

During the meeting, Dkt. Biteko emphasized the strong and long-standing ties between Tanzania and Vietnam.

"Tanzania and Vietnam have enjoyed a close relationship for many years. We continue to strengthen our cooperation in diplomacy, politics, and economics," he said.

He also praised Vietnam for its investments in Tanzania, particularly in the telecommunications sector through Halotel.

"Vietnam’s investment, especially in Halotel, has been significant. Our countries need to increase the level of trade between us," Dkt. Biteko remarked.

He noted that the current level of investment stands at USD 300 million.

Hon. Phan Dinh Trac, on his part, expressed his admiration for Tanzania’s efforts to attract investment and improve public services.

"The Tanzanian government and CCM have created a strong investment environment, improved healthcare, and fought corruption effectively," he said.

He also commended Tanzania’s economic growth, highlighting that the country’s economy is growing at a rate of 6.5% annually.

"Tanzania is playing a major role in the development of Africa and the world," Hon. Trac added.

Additionally, Hon. Trac reassured Tanzania of Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening the partnership that has existed between the two nations for nearly 60 years.

He also requested Tanzania to act as a link between Vietnam and the African Union in promoting development initiatives.

"We believe Tanzania can be a bridge between Vietnam and Africa in various development sectors," he said.
