Time to act: switch to clean cooking energy

The Deputy Minister for the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Hon. Zainabu Katimba, has called on citizens to actively support the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy, an initiative spearheaded by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

“Times have changed; we must back the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan by embracing clean cooking energy sources such as gas, electricity, and others,” Hon. Katimba said.

She emphasized that Tanzanians should take part in the Clean Cooking Energy Strategy and demonstrate change by transitioning from unsafe and unclean energy sources. Hon. Katimba also stressed that adopting clean cooking energy will significantly reduce environmental degradation. Statistics show that approximately 469,000 hectares of forest are lost annually, mainly due to human activities, including the use of unclean cooking energy sources like firewood and charcoal.

“By using clean cooking energy, we will not only save the environment but also protect people’s health. Around 33,000 people lose their lives each year due to the use of unclean energy, which creates smoky and polluted kitchen environments, leading to respiratory problems,” Hon. Katimba added.

Addressing concerns about the safety of household gas, Hon. Katimba assured the public that it is safe for domestic use.
