The collaboration strategy set by ministries responsible for the water sector, aimed at educating the public on protecting water sources and working with communities to safeguard these resources, has shown significant success.

Deputy Minister of Energy Judith Kapinga, highlighted this today, September 24, 2024, in Ruvuma, during the inauguration of a water project in Mtyangimbole by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as part of her ongoing regional tour.

Kapinga emphasized that the collaboration extends beyond education and protection of water sources, ensuring the precious liquid is allocated according to the needs of various sectors.

Recognizing the cross-cutting nature of the water sector, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Dr. Doto Biteko, convened a meeting with all ministries benefiting from the water sector to devise strategies for sustainable water use.

"For example, the Ministries of Water, Agriculture, and Energy are interdependent to ensure our electricity services run smoothly, water distribution to citizens is efficient, and irrigation systems function properly using our available water sources," Kapinga explained.

She further noted that a clear example of efficient water use is the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), where three turbines are already generating electricity using water, a shift from the heavy reliance on natural gas for power production before the project began.

Addressing concerns about human activities, including agriculture damaging water sources, Kapinga assured that government institutions are working together to conserve the environment and educate communities to ensure water is used in a regulated manner.
