Shinyanga: In a powerful address that resonated with urgency and authority, Shinyanga Regional Commissioner Anamringi Macha set the tone for the NGO Forum with a clear and uncompromising message: non-governmental organizations must align their operations with national laws and respect Tanzanian culture, or face the consequences of strained relations with the government.

Macha’s statement, delivered during the forum's opening, highlighted the critical balance between collaboration and accountability, emphasizing that while the government values the contributions of NGOs, adherence to legal and cultural norms is non-negotiable.

As the forum progressed on August 28, 2024, Macha underscored that the success of NGOs in advancing community development hinges on their ability to operate within the frameworks that safeguard the integrity and heritage of the nation.

Speaking to a packed audience of NGO leaders, Macha emphasized that while the government deeply values their contributions to community development, it will not tolerate any actions that undermine legal and cultural norms.

"The government appreciates the vital role NGOs play in advancing our society, but this must be done in harmony with our laws and traditions," Macha declared, setting the tone for a meeting focused on accountability and collaboration.

Macha commended NGOs for their efforts in tackling youth unemployment through job creation. However, he underscored the necessity of merit-based employment practices, warning against nepotism and favoritism.

"Jobs should be given on merit, not through family connections," he insisted.

In a stern caution, the Regional Commissioner reminded NGOs to respect local authorities in the areas they operate. He urged them to work closely with local leaders to ensure their projects are implemented effectively and without friction.

Bakari Juma Kibile, Chairman of the Shinyanga NGO Forum, echoed Macha's sentiments, expressing gratitude for the regional government's support. He highlighted the significant impact of the 116 registered NGOs in the region, which provide critical services in education, health, human rights, and entrepreneurship.

Kibile also praised their role in combating violence against women and children and called for continued government cooperation, particularly in streamlining project approvals.

Forum participants lauded the government’s cooperation and advocated for more locally funded projects to reduce reliance on foreign aid.

Held at the Shinyanga Regional Commissioner’s office, the forum concluded with Macha reaffirming his commitment to supporting NGOs in their efforts to drive development across the region. He pledged to work closely with them to achieve shared goals.
