President
Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged Tanzanian councils to efficiently allocate newly
hired staff to enhance service delivery across various sectors, including
hospitals. Acknowledging the government’s current inability to meet 100%
staffing needs, she emphasized the importance of distributing available
personnel to benefit all citizens.
President
Samia made these remarks on Friday, August 2, 2024, while addressing Kilosa
residents during the inauguration of the Berege Bridge as part of her working
tour in Morogoro.
This directive came in response to a request
by Kilosa MP Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi for more healthcare workers in the
district's dispensaries and health centers.
“Recently,
the government hired many employees. When the allocation reaches here, the
council should ensure an equitable distribution so that all health centers and
hospitals in this district get doctors and nurses,” she stated.
The
newly opened bridge will not only connect residents but also facilitate the
transport of produce by large vehicles instead of the motorcycles previously
used. “Building a bridge is one thing; maintaining it is another. As you heard,
this bridge cost a lot of money. Please take good care of it so it serves for
many years, generations to come,” she urged.
Besides,
President Samia approved Prof. Kabudi’s request to convert former World Vision
buildings into a Community Development College. She explained that her six-day
tour in Morogoro aimed to address local issues and reconnect with the residents
since she had not visited the region for official duties since assuming office
on March 19, 2021, succeeding Dr. John Magufuli.
“I came to see my relatives in 2021. After I
was entrusted with the leadership, I did not come to see you. I decided to come
so we could meet, many of you are eager to see me. I came to listen to your
problems, take them, and work on them,” she said.
The
President highlighted her tour's objective to assess the impact of government
funds allocated to alleviate local challenges through various projects,
including those in the health sector. “This morning, I started by visiting
Gairo Hospital, and I am satisfied with the use of funds and the work done
there. It is a good hospital with modern equipment. Let’s maintain it to
continue providing quality services,” she said.
During
the visit, President Samia will lay foundation stones and inaugurate several
projects funded by the government. She also intends to inspect the restoration
progress of infrastructure damaged by heavy El Nino rains.
Early this year, the rains caused significant
damage, particularly to 3,115 kilometers of the 6,256.9 kilometers of roads
managed by the Urban and Rural Road Agency (Tarura). Additionally, 211 out of
3,500 culverts under Tarura's care were washed away, leading some road users to
halt services for weeks.
President
Samia called on Morogoro residents to preserve the prevailing peace, enabling
leaders to perform their duties effectively. She also encouraged them to
participate actively in the upcoming local government, village, and hamlet
elections at the end of the year.
