The Tanzania Prisons Service Women’s Network has been urged to invest in viable income-generating projects that can deliver tangible benefits to members and increase the value of their contributions.

The network’s chairperson, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons (DCP) Lipina Lyimo, said members should come up with practical project proposals capable of improving the network’s financial position and delivering long-term benefits.

She made the call on November 4, 2026, while chairing a meeting to review the network’s General Meeting, bringing together participants from Dodoma Region at the Prisons Service headquarters in Msalato, Dodoma.

Ms Lyimo also called on the network’s secretariat to consider and act on members’ recommendations, saying their contributions were important in strengthening the organisation and improving preparations for its next general meeting.

During the meeting, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (ACP) Edith Mbogo urged members to take greater responsibility for their personal security and privacy, particularly when using social media.

She cautioned against recording and circulating personal images on social media platforms, drawing on lessons from leadership training she attended in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Prisons (SSP) Bonaza Malata presented a report on leadership training attended by eight female officers from the Tanzania Prisons Service at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha kwa Mfipa, Coast Region.

The programme covered personal and institutional leadership, human resource management, strategic leadership, conflict resolution, project management and communication.

Other areas included the application of artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies, information security and strategies for promoting women's participation in leadership.

Explaining the network’s governance structure, its secretary, Inspector of Prisons Scholastica Ndunguru, said the organisation had a constitution that guides the conduct of its meetings and other activities.

She urged members to actively contribute ideas and recommendations to improve the network’s operations and strengthen the implementation of its objectives.

Established in 2018, the network seeks to raise awareness among female prison officers about issues affecting their working environment while promoting the rights and welfare of vulnerable groups of female inmates.

These include pregnant inmates, women living with their children in prison and children in conflict with the law.
