Police in Morogoro Region have launched an investigation into allegations by a woman that money was taken from her bank account and handed over to her former employer, following claims circulating on social media.
The woman, identified as Queen Boniface Mmassy, made the allegations in information shared through the Kusagatv social media account, prompting police to begin inquiries into the matter.
In a statement issued to the public, the Tanzania Police Force in Morogoro said investigators had started gathering information from Ms Mmassy and other people she had named to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
"The investigation involves obtaining her account and hearing from all the people she has mentioned to establish the truth," the police said.
The force said any action arising from the investigation would be taken fairly and in accordance with the law, depending on the evidence established.
It emphasised that no individual was above the law, signalling that those found to have acted unlawfully would face appropriate legal action.
The investigation is expected to establish how the money was allegedly taken, the circumstances under which it was transferred and the possible involvement of the people named in the claims.
Police, however, did not disclose the amount of money involved or provide further details about the alleged transaction.
