The National Museum of Tanzania (NMT) has stepped up efforts to prevent fire disasters at its facilities by training employees in fire prevention and emergency response.
The training seeks to equip staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to identify fire risks, use firefighting equipment and respond effectively to emergencies to protect lives, property and infrastructure.
Held at the National Museum and House of Culture in Posta, Dar es Salaam, the programme was officially opened by NMT Director General Dr Noel Lwoga, accompanied by Director of Corporate Services Mr Zakkarriya Kyera and Head of Administration and Human Resources Ms Renalda Lyimo.
Officers from the Fire and Rescue Force, led by Assistant Inspector Mohamed Selungwi, alongside firefighters Eliamani Mwanga and Jofrey Sindika, facilitated the training.
Participants were taken through the causes and different types of fires, firefighting equipment and the procedures to follow when responding to fire emergencies.
The training is part of the institution's efforts to strengthen workplace safety and ensure employees are better prepared to act quickly when fire incidents occur.
Beyond protecting staff and visitors, the initiative is also intended to safeguard museum facilities and assets, which play an important role in preserving Tanzania's cultural heritage.
Effective fire preparedness is particularly important for museums, where emergencies can put both human lives and valuable cultural collections at risk.
