Zanzibar is stepping up efforts to attract investment, expand industrial development and create more economic opportunities for its people as Minister for Trade and Industrial Development Omar Said Shaaban begins a 10-day official visit to China.
The visit is expected to strengthen trade and economic cooperation between Zanzibar, Tanzania and China’s Shandong Province, with a focus on attracting investors to the industrial, manufacturing, trade and services sectors.
Minister Shaaban is visiting China following an official invitation from Shandong Province and organisers of the Yellow River Basin Enterprise Going Global and Comprehensive Services Exchange and Matchmaking Conference, scheduled to take place on October 27, 2026, in Jinan.
At the conference, the minister is expected to address more than 700 industrialists and businesspeople from different parts of the Yellow River Basin and other countries.
He will highlight investment opportunities available in Zanzibar’s industrial and manufacturing sectors, as well as government incentives designed to encourage investment and support business growth.
The visit will also provide an opportunity for Minister Shaaban to meet leaders of Shandong Province, visit industrial parks and hold discussions with factory owners to explore areas of mutual interest and potential business partnerships.
For Zanzibar, attracting investment into productive sectors could help strengthen local industries, expand trade, improve access to markets and create opportunities for entrepreneurs and workers.
Increased industrial activity could also support employment and contribute to the islands’ wider economic development.
The planned engagements are therefore part of efforts to build stronger international business links and promote Zanzibar as a destination for investors seeking opportunities in industry, trade and services.
The statement was issued by the Information and Communications Unit of the Ministry of Trade and Industrial Development, Zanzibar, on October 26, 2026.
