By Victoria Godfrey

Simba SC have booked their place in the group stage of the CAF Champions League in style after defeating 15 de Agosto 3-0 in the return leg at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on October 25, 2026, to secure a convincing 9-1 aggregate victory.

The win is a major boost for Simba and Tanzanian football fans, as the Msimbazi giants continue their campaign to compete among Africa’s top clubs.

After a goalless first half, Simba broke the deadlock in the 57th minute through Anicet Oura, who gave the home side the lead and lifted the confidence of the team.

Simba maintained their attacking pressure, with Elie Mpanzu extending the lead in the 68th minute before Keletso Makgalwa sealed the victory with the third goal in the 76th minute.

The comprehensive result confirmed Simba’s qualification for the group stage, where they will face stronger opposition as they seek to make a significant impact on the continental stage.

Tanzania will have two representatives in the CAF Champions League group stage, with Simba joining their long-time rivals Young Africans (Yanga), giving local football supporters more opportunities to follow their teams against leading clubs from across Africa.

Meanwhile, Tanzania’s representation in continental competitions could also increase through the CAF Confederation Cup.

Azam FC have already secured a place in the group stage, while Singida Black Stars are seeking to join them, depending on the outcome of their ongoing fixture.

Simba’s emphatic victory is an encouraging result for the club and its supporters, while the presence of Tanzanian teams in both continental competitions offers an opportunity to raise the country’s football profile and strengthen its competitiveness in Africa.
