Tanzania’s national boxing team has won seven medals, including two silver and five bronze, at the African Boxing Championships held in Kasarani, Nairobi, Kenya.

Secretary-General of the Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT), Makore Mashaga, told The Respondent Online that the team had put up a commendable performance to finish the competition with seven medals.

He congratulated the boxers, coaches and team officials, attributing the achievement to their commitment, discipline and patriotism.

“The federation congratulates all the boxers, coaches and team officials for their dedication, discipline and patriotism, which contributed to this achievement,” he said.

Mashaga said the results reflected Tanzania’s continued efforts to develop boxing and strengthen the country's competitiveness in international competitions.

He added that the federation hoped the team would build on the achievement and perform even better in future tournaments while continuing to represent the country on the international stage.

Veronica Thomas Mapunda won silver in the women's 48kg category, while Recho Peter Msengi secured the other silver medal in the 80kg-plus division.

Tanzania's bronze medal winners included Sophia Ramadhani Hamisi in the 51kg category, Zawadi Amos Kutaka in the 57kg division and Hidaya Zahoro in the 80kg category.

In the men's competition, Mohamed Mjombo Mohamed claimed bronze in the 55kg category, while Tryphone Mberwa Amos won bronze in the 75kg division.

The seven-medal haul provides another opportunity for Tanzania's boxing fraternity to assess its progress and build on the team's performance ahead of future international competitions.
