Tanzania has stepped up discussions with SpaceX and Starlink over potential investment in the country’s communications and technology sectors, Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has said.
Dr Nchemba held talks with representatives of the two companies in London on October 7, 2026, as the government seeks to attract investment in technology and expand access to modern communications services.
The meeting focused on investment opportunities for SpaceX and Starlink in Tanzania’s communications and technology sectors, according to a government statement.
The talks brought together senior government officials, including Minister for Communication and Technology Angela Kairuki, Minister for Finance Ambassador Khamis Musa Omar and Minister for Planning and Investment Kitila Mkumbo.
The engagement comes as Tanzania seeks to strengthen its digital infrastructure and expand access to communications services, particularly as technology becomes increasingly important to economic activity and public services.
SpaceX is the US-based aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, while Starlink, operated by SpaceX, provides satellite-based internet services.
The government’s engagement with the companies signals efforts to deepen Tanzania’s participation in the rapidly evolving digital economy and attract technology-related investment.
Further details on the proposed investments, including their value, implementation timelines and specific projects, were not provided in the statement.
