Police tighten security ahead of Simba-Yanga derby

Police have stepped up security measures ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated Mainland Premier League clash between arch-rivals Simba and Yanga at Uhuru Stadium in Temeke.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 7pm on October 10, with police saying security will remain tight before, during and after the game in coordination with other stakeholders.

The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone urged fans and other football stakeholders to observe the law and avoid acts that could disrupt peace and security during the high-profile fixture.

“Fans, supporters and all football stakeholders are reminded to refrain from any acts that contravene the law, regulations and procedures governing gatherings of this nature,” police said in a statement.

The force wished both teams a successful match while calling on supporters to ensure the derby is played in a peaceful environment.

In a separate development, police have confirmed that 19-year-old domestic worker Angel Abayo and her employer’s 10-month-old child, who were reported missing in Kibada, Kigamboni, have been found safe.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that Abayo left with the child after her request to visit a sick relative in Kibaha was denied by her employer.

She reportedly decided to leave without informing her employer.

Police thanked members of the public and other investigative stakeholders who participated in efforts to trace Abayo and the child.

The force also encouraged residents to continue sharing information that can help prevent crime and strengthen security in Dar es Salaam.

Police further invited residents to participate in the (Talk to the Commander) campaign, which provides an opportunity for communities to raise security concerns directly with police and discuss possible solutions.

The campaign is intended to strengthen cooperation between police and residents in identifying and addressing crime-related challenges within communities.
