The National Sports Council (NSC) has urged the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to use the arrival of the English Premier League (EPL) trophy in Tanzania to strengthen international partnerships, nurture local talent and accelerate football development in the country.
Speaking on October 8, 2026, during the trophy’s reception at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, NSC Senior Sports Officer Charles Maguzu said the visit presented an opportunity to inspire football fans and establish partnerships that could benefit Tanzanian football.
Maguzu said the trophy’s arrival would give Tanzanians an opportunity to see in person a prestigious sporting symbol they have traditionally followed through television broadcasts.
He urged TFF to use the occasion to engage with football authorities in England and establish programmes that would support grassroots football, identify emerging talent and improve the skills of Tanzanian players.
“I urge TFF to use this opportunity to build cooperation with the English football authorities and introduce programmes that will promote football development in the country, particularly by nurturing talent and improving the abilities of Tanzanian players,” he said.
Maguzu added that collaboration between the Government, the private sector and local and international organisations was essential to developing sports and raising Tanzania’s profile on the international stage.
Meanwhile, Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) Managing Director Dr Obina Anyalebechi said the arrival of the EPL trophy through Guinness aimed to give Tanzanian fans a memorable experience and strengthen their connection with the English league.
“Football is more than a game in Tanzania; it is a passion that brings millions of people together,” Anyalebechi said.
He said the company was proud to bring the trophy to Tanzania through Guinness for the first time, giving fans an opportunity to celebrate their love for football and experience the excitement surrounding one of the world’s most followed leagues.
The trophy is scheduled to tour various locations across Dar es Salaam, giving fans and selected guests an opportunity to see it up close.
On October 10, 2026, the trophy will be displayed at KMC Complex in Mwenge, where fans will participate in activities organised under the Guinness Experience.
The event will also feature screenings of various football matches, including the highly anticipated Kariakoo Derby between Simba Sports Club and Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga).
Beyond the excitement surrounding the trophy, the visit presents an opportunity to inspire young players, promote wider participation in football and encourage partnerships that can support the development of the sport in Tanzania.
For Tanzanian football fans and aspiring players, the lasting impact of the visit will depend on how the enthusiasm it generates translates into stronger grassroots programmes, improved training opportunities and greater support for local talent.
