Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi has arrived in South Korea for a working visit that will include participation in international forums on island tourism and development, as the Isles seek to strengthen cooperation and attract investment.
Dr Mwinyi, who is also Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, arrived in the Republic of Korea on October 26, 2026, accompanied by First Lady Mariam Mwinyi and a delegation ahead of the official start of his visit on October 27.
He was received at the airport by Tanzania’s Ambassador to South Korea, Mr Noel Emmanuel Kaganda, alongside other officials from the Tanzanian Embassy.
During the visit, Dr Mwinyi is scheduled to attend the 2026 World Islands Expo in Yeosu and the 27th International Tourism Policy Forum for Islands (ITOP Forum 2026) on Jeju Island.
The two events bring opportunities for Zanzibar to engage with other island destinations on tourism policies, development strategies and ways of strengthening cooperation.
The visit is also expected to provide a platform for Zanzibar to showcase its tourism potential and explore partnerships that could support investment and economic development.
Tourism remains one of Zanzibar’s key economic sectors, making international cooperation important in efforts to expand the industry, attract more visitors and create employment opportunities for residents.
