ACT-Wazalendo women urged to strengthen grassroots mobilisation in Pemba

ACT-Wazalendo National Executive Committee member Kombo Mwinyi Shehe has called on women members in Pemba to take a more active role in building the party, strengthening unity and promoting democratic participation in Zanzibar.

He made the call during the ACT-Wazalendo Women’s Wing General Meeting for Chake Chake Region, held at Ziwani Constituency Hall in Pemba, where he emphasised the importance of women’s participation in political leadership and grassroots mobilisation.

Shehe said women are an important force in strengthening the party and advancing its political objectives, urging them to take the lead in mobilising members, engaging communities and ensuring that the party remains connected to the people it seeks to represent.

He stressed that building a strong political party requires consistent engagement at the grassroots level, particularly in villages and local branches, rather than relying solely on regional leaders and office-based activities.

“Our party needs everyone to participate fully in building it. We cannot strengthen the party by remaining in offices alone; we must reach the branches and villages to build it from the grassroots,” he said.

Shehe noted that the party’s progress depends on the commitment of its leaders and members, calling for greater cooperation and shared responsibility in implementing party programmes and achieving its objectives.

He also urged women to protect unity and solidarity within the organisation, warning that internal divisions, rumours and personal interests could weaken the party and undermine collective efforts.

He encouraged members to put the interests of the party and the wider aspirations of Zanzibar ahead of individual interests, saying that unity and cooperation are essential to sustaining political mobilisation and democratic engagement.

The ACT-Wazalendo leader further emphasised accountability among party leaders, urging them to remain committed to their responsibilities and work closely with members at the grassroots level.

His message underscored the need for women to play a stronger role in community engagement and party development, with grassroots participation identified as a key foundation for building an effective and united political organisation.
