Zanzibar President mourns death of Samia’s Husband

President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has expressed his condolences to President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Mr Hassan died on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, according to a statement from the Office of the President of Zanzibar.

In his condolence message, Dr Mwinyi said he had received the news with deep sadness, extending his condolences to President Samia, the bereaved family, relatives, friends and all those affected by the death.

He described Mr Hassan’s death as a significant loss to the family and the wider community, while praying for strength and comfort for President Samia and her family as they mourn.

Mr Hassan is scheduled to be buried on Monday in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, following arrangements made by the family, relatives, community leaders and other national leaders.

Dr Mwinyi urged President Samia and the bereaved family to remain strong during the difficult period, offering his prayers for the deceased and those left behind.

“May Allah grant him eternal rest and give the bereaved family strength and patience during this difficult time,” Dr Mwinyi said.
