Police in Morogoro are holding a 30-year-old woman for allegedly killing her husband following a domestic dispute at Mafisa in Morogoro Municipality.

The suspect, Jovita Bategeuye Budyo, a tailor and resident of Mafisa, is accused of killing her 44-year-old husband, Abeli Charles, a businessman who also lived in the area.

Morogoro Regional Police Commander, ACP Andrew Kantimbo, said in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, that the incident occurred on the night of August 31 at Mafisa Ward.

According to the police, the couple were at home preparing to have dinner when an argument broke out.

The dispute was reportedly linked to allegations that Charles had been denied conjugal relations, with the disagreement later escalating into a physical confrontation.

Police allege that Budyo attacked Charles with a sharp object, causing serious injuries to his head and neck. He later died from the injuries.

Police have launched an investigation and are holding Budyo pending further legal procedures.

The incident has renewed concerns over the dangers of violence in resolving domestic disputes, with ACP Kantimbo urging couples and families to seek peaceful ways of addressing disagreements.

He also called on members of the public to cooperate with police in maintaining safety and protecting vulnerable groups, including children, older people and people with disabilities.

Police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing as investigations continue.
