Tanzania’s women’s national football team, Twiga Stars, will enter camp on October 1 to begin preparations for their Olympic Games qualifying match against Botswana.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Information and Communications Officer Clifford Mario Ndimbo said the match is part of Twiga Stars’ campaign to secure a place at the Olympic Games.

Head coach Bakari Shime has named a 23-player squad for the preparations, featuring players from clubs in Tanzania and abroad.

JKT Queens has contributed seven players to the squad — Najiath Abbas, Anastazia Katunzi, Ester Maseke, Winfrida Castor, Asha Rashid, Elizabeth Chenge and Bahati Steven.

Simba Queens has six representatives: Janeth Shija, Violeth Nicholous, Elizabeth Joseph, Mary Siyame, Aisha Mnunka and Fatuma Issa.

The squad also includes Diana Mnaly of Yanga Princess and Nusra Hamis of Fountain Gate.

Among the players based outside Tanzania are Julietha Singano of Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr, Noela Luhala of MFA Zalgiris in Lithuania and Enekia Lunyamila of Gallos Femenil in Mexico.

Diana Msewa plays for Trabzonspor in Turkey, Hasnath Ubamba is with Madrid CFF in Spain, while Clara Luvanga represents Washington Spirit in the United States.

The overseas-based contingent also includes Opah Clement Alula, who plays in Saudi Arabia, and Aisha Masaka of England’s Brighton.

The October camp will give Shime an opportunity to work with the squad before the team faces Botswana in the Olympic qualification campaign.
