The Directorate of Presidential Communications at State House has warned Tanzanians against creating and circulating fabricated statements falsely presented as official communications from President Samia Suluhu Hassan or State House.
The warning follows the identification of fake statements circulating on social media that have been designed to resemble official government communications and are being attributed to the President or State House.
In a statement, the Directorate urged the public to verify information concerning the President through authorised communication channels before accepting or sharing it.
It said all official information relating to the President’s activities is issued through the Directorate of Presidential Communications at State House and published on its verified platforms.
The public has been advised to rely on the official Ikulu Tanzania Instagram account, @ikulu_mawasiliano, the official Facebook page, @ikulu.mawasiliano, and the State House website, www.ikulu.go.tz, when verifying presidential information.
The Directorate stressed the importance of checking the authenticity of statements, particularly those circulating widely on social media, before forwarding or republishing them.
It also reminded the public that producing or distributing false information using the name, logo or identity of the President or State House amounts to an offence under Sections 15 and 16 of the Cybercrimes Act, Cap. 443.
The warning underscores the government’s concern over the growing circulation of fabricated content online, which can mislead the public and create confusion over official government positions.
The Directorate therefore called on members of the public to exercise caution and use official sources to verify presidential statements and announcements before sharing them.
