Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has challenged Union institutions to break down barriers between them and work more closely to improve services and deliver tangible benefits to Tanzanians.
Mr Ndejembi said closer coordination among the institutions was necessary to ensure that the Union's work translated into better economic opportunities and improved access to services such as health and education.
He made the remarks on Saturday, September 19, 2026, while opening a meeting of heads of 39 Union institutions at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Zanzibar.
The Vice President said the institutions should identify opportunities available on both sides of the Union and use their combined expertise and resources to improve efficiency.
He urged their leaders to put citizens' interests at the centre of their work and operate with a shared vision rather than allowing institutional interests to limit cooperation.
“Citizens expect to see the Union and its institutions delivering results that directly touch their lives,” Mr Ndejembi said.
He said the institutions should also strengthen joint participation in activities within and outside the country where such cooperation could increase productivity and create greater benefits for Tanzanians.
Mr Ndejembi said the Vice President's Office would continue to support the institutions through coordination, supervision, advice and facilitation to help them execute their responsibilities more effectively.
The meeting brings together heads of Union institutions to assess ways of improving coordination, sharing experience and developing joint strategies to strengthen their performance.
Minister of State in the Vice President's Office (Union and Environment), Hamad Yussuf Masauni, said the meeting was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the institutions and the Vice President's Office.
He said it would also provide an opportunity to improve the institutions' understanding of Union matters and clarify their respective responsibilities, while identifying ways to improve efficiency.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State in the Second Vice President's Office of Zanzibar, Hamza Hassan Juma, permanent secretaries and chief executives of Union institutions.
The discussions are expected to focus on practical measures for improving coordination and joint implementation of responsibilities, with the ultimate goal of improving services to citizens.
