Yas Fiber has expanded its high-speed internet services to Dodoma, responding to growing demand for reliable connectivity as the capital city attracts more businesses, institutions and residential developments.
The service is initially available in Ilazo, Ipagala, Swaswa and Mjini Kati, with the expansion expected to improve internet access for households, businesses and institutions. The connectivity is expected to support online learning, remote work, digital businesses and access to essential online services.
Speaking at the launch, Dodoma District Commissioner Jabir Shekimweri said investment in digital infrastructure was increasingly important as the city continues to grow.
“Dodoma is growing rapidly, and this growth needs to be supported by reliable infrastructure, including digital connectivity,” Mr Shekimweri said.
He said better internet access could create greater opportunities for young people and entrepreneurs by improving access to education, information, markets and digital services.
Yas Fiber Chief Executive Officer Maxime Woimant said the expansion was aimed at providing infrastructure capable of supporting Dodoma’s changing economic and social needs.
“We are not simply bringing faster internet to Dodoma. We are bringing infrastructure that can help people work better, learn better, do business better and access opportunities in an increasingly digital world,” Mr Woimant said.
According to the company, reliable fibre connectivity can help entrepreneurs promote their products and reach customers online, while enabling students to access digital learning resources. Businesses and institutions can also benefit from improved access to cloud services, digital systems and online platforms.
As part of the expansion, Yas Fiber has introduced additional benefits for its fibre customers by combining home internet with mobile connectivity.
Customers will receive mobile data and all-network voice minutes on their Yas numbers as part of their monthly fibre packages at no additional cost.
Depending on the package, customers will receive between 5GB and 30GB of mobile data and 50 to 350 all-network voice minutes, while continuing to pay their regular monthly fibre subscription.
Mr Woimant said the additional benefits were intended to provide customers with greater value and ensure they remain connected beyond their homes.
“It is not only about speed. It is about what that speed enables people to do,” he said.Yas Fiber plans to progressively extend its network to additional parts of Dodoma as demand increases.
Mr Woimant said the expansion formed part of the company’s wider ambition to support Tanzania’s digital transformation by improving connectivity and expanding access to digital opportunities.
“As Dodoma grows, Yas Fiber will grow with Dodoma. We will continue to invest, innovate and expand because we believe reliable connectivity should be an enabler of Tanzania’s development,” he said.
