Tanzania and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors, with trade and investment, health, technology, infrastructure and the digital economy emerging as key areas for greater collaboration.
The commitment was made yesterday, August 13, 2026, during talks in Dodoma between senior officials from Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and a delegation from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The Tanzanian delegation was led by Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister Ambassador Dr Mahmoud Thabit Kombo and Permanent Secretary Ambassador Dr Samwel Shelukindo.
The German delegation was led by Joachim Schmitt, head of the Africa Division at the ministry.
The talks focused on expanding existing areas of cooperation while identifying new opportunities that could deliver greater economic and social benefits to citizens in both countries.
Dr Kombo and Ambassador Shelukindo commended Germany’s contribution to Tanzania’s development and said the government remained committed to strengthening the partnership, particularly in areas that support economic growth and improve livelihoods.
On his part, Mr Schmitt described Tanzania as an important development partner for Germany in Africa, saying Berlin was ready to explore new areas of cooperation that respond to Tanzania’s priorities and emerging opportunities.
These include technology, defence and security, and the digital economy, in addition to existing cooperation in sectors such as the environment, water, infrastructure and the blue economy.
The discussions come amid a growing German investment footprint in Tanzania.
Data from the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) shows that 187 German investment projects had been registered in Tanzania by October 2025.
The projects had a combined value of $535.63 million and generated about 16,427 jobs across different sectors of the economy.
The figures underline Germany’s role as one of Tanzania’s leading foreign investment partners and point to the potential for further expansion of economic ties.
For Tanzania, deeper engagement with Germany could help attract additional investment, technology and expertise, particularly in sectors aligned with the country’s development priorities.
The two sides are therefore seeking to build on their longstanding relationship by widening economic cooperation, promoting sustainable development and creating more opportunities for investment and employment.
The latest talks also reflect Tanzania’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships that can support economic transformation while positioning the country as an attractive destination for international investors.
