Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, ahead of the match, representatives of both teams said they were prepared for a competitive contest and were focused on securing maximum points.
Simba assistant coach Suleiman Matola said his side was expecting a tough match despite Coastal Union's recent struggles.
“Coastal Union have not been getting good results, but they have been playing well and remain a competitive side. We therefore expect a difficult game,” Matola said.
He said Simba had used their preparations to address weaknesses identified in previous matches, with greater emphasis on converting scoring opportunities.
“We have increased our focus and worked on mistakes that were previously overlooked. Although we have been getting good results, we still need to improve our efficiency in front of goal,” he said.
Simba goalkeeper Hussein Abel said the players were motivated to deliver a strong defensive performance and keep a clean sheet.
“We have prepared well. We have spoken with the coaches, received their instructions and are following them. I believe we can start keeping clean sheets consistently from tomorrow,” Abel said.
Simba's captain also expressed confidence in the team's ability to collect maximum points after a successful trip to the Lake Zone, where they secured nine points.
“We came through the Lake Zone trip successfully and collected all nine points. Now we are back at our home ground, and we believe we can get another three points tomorrow,” he said.
For Coastal Union, head coach Fikiri Elias said his team had studied Simba's strengths and developed a strategy to limit their attacking threat.
“We know Simba are particularly dangerous during transitions, so we have put plans in place to contain them and give ourselves a chance of getting a good result,” Elias said.
Coastal Union players' representative Saidi Sady acknowledged the challenge posed by facing one of the country's leading clubs but insisted that his teammates would not be intimidated.
“We know we are playing a big team, but that does not mean we should be afraid. We have to prepare properly, compete and fight for the three points,” Sady said.
