Police in Dar es Salaam have arrested Tito Onesmo Machibya, popularly known as “Prophet Tito,” over allegations of making false statements, using abusive language and inciting the public.
Machibya, a resident of Buza Sigara in Temeke District, was arrested on August 15, 2026, at about 4:20pm in the Sinza Makaburini area of Ubungo, according to a police statement.
Police said the suspect is being questioned as investigations continue, with legal procedures underway to facilitate his referral to the relevant authorities for further action.
The statement did not disclose the specific remarks or statements that allegedly led to his arrest.
Police also did not indicate whether charges had been formally filed against Machibya.
Under the principle of presumption of innocence, Machibya is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of law.
