Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, on Friday swore in four senior government officials, including two new High Court judges, in appointments aimed at strengthening key public institutions.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the State House in Zanzibar, saw the officials formally assume office following their recent appointments.
The newly sworn-in officials are Dr Mahadhi Juma Maalim, appointed Chairperson of the Zanzibar Public Leaders' Ethics Commission; Valentina Andrew Katema and Khamis Ali Simai, who were sworn in as Judges of the High Court of Zanzibar; and Dr Josephine Rogate Kimaro, appointed Executive Secretary of the Zanzibar Planning Commission.
The appointments come as the government continues to reinforce institutions responsible for the administration of justice, ethical leadership and strategic development planning, areas considered central to public service delivery and governance.
Speaking during the ceremony, President Mwinyi administered the oath of office to the appointees, marking the beginning of their official duties in their respective institutions.
The event was attended by Second Vice-President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, Chief Justice of Zanzibar Khamis Ramadhan Abdalla, Speaker of the House of Representatives Zuberi Ali Maulid, Secretary to the Revolutionary Council and Chief Secretary Mansoura Mossi Kassim, cabinet ministers, permanent secretaries, heads of defence and security institutions, religious leaders and other invited guests.
The appointments are expected to enhance institutional capacity in Zanzibar's judiciary, public ethics oversight and development planning as the Isles pursue ongoing governance and public sector reforms.
