Tanzania strengthens clean cooking campaign through media training in Morogoro

By The Respondents Reporter

The government has intensified efforts to promote clean cooking energy adoption in Tanzania by engaging journalists and communication officers in a capacity-building workshop aimed at improving public awareness on the importance of clean cooking solutions.

Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, arrived in Morogoro yesterday to officially open the workshop, which focuses on strengthening media reporting and government communication on clean cooking energy initiatives.

The workshop, held at Morena Hotel, brings together journalists and communication officers from various government institutions to enhance their understanding of clean cooking technologies, policies and programmes, enabling them to provide accurate and impactful information to the public.

The training has been organised by the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) through the CookFund Project, funded by the European Union.

Speaking ahead of the opening, officials said effective communication remains critical in accelerating the adoption of clean cooking solutions, which are expected to improve household health, protect the environment and contribute to Tanzania’s sustainable energy goals.

Deputy Minister Makamba was accompanied by Morogoro District Commissioner Mussa Kilakala, Ministry of Energy Director for Clean Cooking Energy Nolasco Mlay, Head of Government Communication Unit at the Ministry of Energy Nteghenjwa Hosseah, and CookFund Project Manager at UNCDF Imanuel Muro.

The initiative comes as Tanzania continues implementing measures to expand access to clean cooking energy and reduce dependence on traditional cooking practices, in line with national development priorities and efforts to improve the quality of life for citizens.
